Operations


Saga Capital Investment Bank operates in ten areas. The bank's five pillars of income are Proprietary Trading, Treasury, Corporate Finance, Capital Markets and Debt Finance. The remaining five are Risk Management, Finance and Administration, Legal Services, Securities Services and Communications.

Capital Markets
The Capital Markets section of Saga Capital brokers securities for companies, investment funds, securities funds, pension funds and wealthy individuals. Saga Capital is a member of all the Nordic Exchanges and is thus able to provide its clients with wide-range services and access to the world's leading securities markets.

Communications
Providing accurate and detailed information to investors is vital at Saga Capital. Communications handles the bank's investor relations, communication with domestic and foreign affiliates, supervises the bank's marketing and image making and manages the flow of information, both inside and outside the company. Communications is also in charge of all media relations.

Corporate Finance
Saga Capital's Corporate Finance provides advice and assistance on acquisitions, disposals and mergers of companies and operating units for firms, holding companies and other institutional investors. Corporate Finance offers a vast range of services in relation to transactions, among them share offerings and listings, supervision of due diligence reports, mergers and acquisitions, assistance in relation to changes in holdings and participation in negotiations and contract making.

Debt Finance
Saga Capital's Debt Finance provides credit to companies and institutional investors. A variety of credit forms are presented, attempting to realize the various needs of the bank's client base. The main credit forms are as follows: Conventional short or long-term bonds, short-term financing, credit agreements, bridge financing, securities financing, project financing and syndicated loans.

Finance and Accounting
Saga Capital's Finance and Accounting is in charge of settling all the bank's operating pillars as well as the bank's annual statements and planning. They also prepare quarterly reconciliations and compile an accounting report for the Board of Directors. Furthermore Finance and Accounting communicate with the Central Bank of Iceland and ensure that operations, accounting and supervision is in accordance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS).

Legal Department
The Legal Department provides legal advice and services to Saga Capital's Board as well as to its other operating units. The department ensures that the bank complies in all its activities with current laws and regulations and works with supervisory authorities on individual legal issues that might arise in the bank's activities. The Legal Department also cooperates with public authorities in order to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorist activities. The Legal Department represents the bank's interests in front of courts and before public authorities.

Proprietary Trading
Proprietary Trading manages the Saga Capital portfolio through participation in domestic and foreign securities markets. The bank's investments are in stocks, bonds and derivatives. Proprietary Trading are also market makers for various types of instruments.

Risk Management
Risk Management analyses, measures, monitors and manages risk in the bank's operations and works closely with other divisions to this effect. Risk Management compiles regular reports for the Board and CEO as well as for supervisory authorities and provides counsel to the bank's client base.

Securities Services
Securities Services  division is divided into three categories, Clearing and settlement, Corporate actions (CA), and Safekeeping. Clearing and settlement department manages clearing and settlement of securities both for proprietary trading and for clients, dematerialised and physical securities. CA department manages all corporate actions events in relations to the securities in custody of Saga Capital. Safekeeping services department manages reconciliation, basic data registrations and reporting to clients.

Treasury
The Treasury Department of Saga Capital manages the bank's financing in domestic and foreign markets. This includes borrowings on the Icelandic money and bond market, international money and bond markets, and international syndicated loan markets. In addition, the department handles the bank's cash management.
